Sharing our story at The Independent’s studios
Earlier this year, Cheryl, Paul and our late co-founder, Ron Stewart Jnr, visited The Independent’s studios to discuss the journey of Andron and the approach that has helped us support more than 1,000 sites nationwide. The film traces our progression from a small family-run operation with one carpet cleaning machine to a national provider trusted by managing agents, property owners and organisations in manufacturing, office environments and many other sectors. It also focuses on the values that continue to guide us: trust, accountability and taking care of people.
Building bespoke solutions
The feature looks at how being family-owned and managed has influenced the way we work. Staying close to customers and understanding how their buildings are used has always been central to our approach. This can be seen in hybrid workplaces where cleaning is shaped around occupancy patterns, or in manufacturing settings where routines reflect safety processes and production schedules. In one central London portfolio of 145 buildings, these adjustments led to a 15 per cent reduction in cost through a service model shaped by real building use.
This steady, practical approach has helped us build long-term relationships. Many of the clients we work with today have been with us for decades, often growing their portfolios and service requirements alongside us.
Investing in our people and communities
The Independent also spent time looking at the work we do to support our teams and the wider communities we work in. Opportunities created through programmes such as Inclusive Futures have helped individuals who face barriers to employment find long-term stability, while more than 90 per cent of our workforce is now paid the real Living Wage. Our commitment to responsible procurement includes an annual pledge to spend £1 million with diverse suppliers, strengthening both local communities and our clients’ supply chains. These commitments remain central to how we operate and reflect our belief in investing in people, providing stability and creating opportunities for those who need a different route into work.
Remaining close to our customers and vision for the future
Another recurring theme in the film is the accessibility that comes with being independently owned. Cheryl, Paul and Ron spoke about the importance of being available to clients, maintaining direct communication with decision-makers and standing by what we promise. This way of working has been part of the business since the beginning and continues to shape how we build trust with customers across the UK.
They also spent time looking ahead, setting out our vision for the future: to become the most trusted family-owned provider of cleaning and security services in the UK. That direction continues the same principles that have guided the organisation since 1980 and reflects our focus on steady, long-term growth.
A feature with personal meaning
The film includes an interview with Ron Stewart Jnr, who sadly passed away in August. His reflections on the early days of the business, the values he believed in and his hopes for the future bring a personal significance to the feature. Ron was at the heart of everything we have built, and his influence continues to shape how we work with customers, how we support our teams and how we build new partnerships.
